Opening of the Hill

The whole of Ellerslie School has had some input into the development of the hill, located at the rear of the school. Children have planted native seedlings, weeded, watered and spread mulch with the end result being an attractive area for all to use.
The school officially opened the hill, now called “The Children’s Garden” on Wednesday 9th September. The area consists of three boxes for growing vegetables, a native tree embankment and an outside classroom, called “The Flintstone Room”, made from large volcanic boulders.
This environmental project would never have been considered, started or completed without the hard work of Row Robinson (representative of Mighty River Power and Mercury Energy) and his many talents as an environmentalist and as an excellent resource gatherer.
