Walking School Bus
The Walking School Buses
At Ellerslie School we encourage children to walk to and from school (or at least part of the way) as it:
- Helps to improve your child's fitness and health.
- Children gain confidence and independance.
- Gets them to arrive to school awake, alert and ready to learn.
- Keeps the school gate area clear of cars so it is safer for everyone.
- Helps your child to become familiar with the local neighbourhood and to learn road sense skills and independence.
- Reduces polluting car emissions in the environment.
Ellerslie School is very fortunate in having two walking school buses.
One operates from the Ellerslie Town Centre from 8.30am daily. A parent helper is in charge and he/she will walk the child/children to school.

The children enjoy the walking school bus and have a 'bus ticket', which is clicked when they 'ride' the bus. Rewards or pizes are given after a certain number of clicks.
Volunteer parent helpers are very welcome. Please contact the above parentes if you would like your child/children involved with the walking school bus. Alternatively contact could be made with the school office.
Take a look at our time zone map to work out how long it would take you to walk to school or where you could drop your children off to walk the last 5 or 10 minutes.
Below is a map that shows the different routes that the Walking School Buses take.
