Melting and Freezing

Ice Balloon

We investigated using a balloon filled with water that ice is solid.  It keeps its shape while it stays frozen, even if it is removed from the container. 

We talked about

What does the ice feel like?
What can we see?
Are there any air bubbles? Where are they? Where do you think they came from?
Is any part of the ice balloon melting?
What can you hear? 

We wrote down and drew pictures of, as many observations about the ice balloon. 

We observed what happened when we put
Food dye on the ice balloon.
Poured water on the ice balloon.
Sprinkled salt on the ice balloon.

Our Science Unit on Melting and Freezing ended by having an amazing trip to the Tip Top Factory.
