Room 7's Crystal Gardens
Crystal Gardens
Growing Crystals: By Kailah Johnson. Room 7
In our classroom we have been learning about crystals. We did an experiment using washing soda, water and string. In a jar we scattered the washing soda crystals. We poured in water and stirred it until it had dissolved. The popstick had some wool tied to it so we placed that on top of the jar. We had to predict what might happen.
When we came back to school the next day there were lots of crystals on the bottom of the jar and on the string. They looked sparkly and white.
Crystal making. By Reilly Downer. Room 7.
For charcoal gardens we used
pieces of charcoal,
salt,
cloudy ammonia
bluing liquid.
food colouring.
We put the charcoal into a tinfoil container. Then we sucked up the food colouring with an eye dropper and squirted over each piece. Miss Waterreus came with the cloudy ammonia and bluing.
Next we put the charcoal to rest and to think what might happen.
Now they look really pretty.
