Peer Mediation
Peer Mediation is a programme adopted by many schools to help reduce problems in the school playground.
The best thing about Peer Mediation is that students learn skills to solve their own problems. Students prefer Peer Mediators to solve their problems to teachers as Peer Mediators understand them better and are able to discuss their problem for the desired amount of time. We have a peaceful playground and the duty teachers get fewer problems to deal with now.
If you are playing peacefully, fairly and are kind to others you have a very high chance of receiving a Gotcha Sticker from one of the peer mediators to acknowldge your efforts.
This is a great opportunity for Year 5, 6, 7 and 8 students to enjoy the satisfaction of being helpful role models to other students. They give up at least one interval per week to do their duty. They proudly walk around with a green folder, sash and a badge to help people enjoy their interval peacefully. Being a Peer Mediator is great because they help others to solve their problem. Peer Mediation is a WIN / WIN situation.
