Our Library
Vision Statement:
Our library will be utilised as the literature and information resource centre of the school, providing and encouraging discovery by all students to find pleasure and confidence in their growth as readers and learners.
Student Librarians:
At the beginning of the year students from Y6 – Y8 are invited to make a formal written application for 20 student librarian positions (on average we receive 50 applications a year). The successful students are prepared to volunteer their time and services as administrative support and service providers in the library. The students develop new skills including learning the Dewey system, shelving books and locating resources for staff and students. Term one, two and three students sit their bronze, silver and gold library awards. To pass each level the students must be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the functions of a library. These awards show the students capabilities in varying areas which works as a reference for continuing responsibilities in their future education and role in their community. The role of head librarian has also been used for the past two years. This is an achievement that can attest to a person’s character and can be used on their secondary school application.
Library Function:
The library is open from 8.30am – 2.45pm and timetabled with fixed and flexible timetable options for classes, small groups and individuals. Classroom teachers have responsibility for supervising classes when using the library. The library staff, including Student Librarians are rostered to assist with supervision during lunch-time.
