Mathematics Parent Workshop

The workshop began with a presentation from Jill Smythe, a Maths Facilitator from the Ministry of Education. She spoke to the parents about The Numeracy Project, the new mathematics curriculum, and how mathematics teaching and learning takes place every day in the classrooms of Ellerslie School. By the end of her presentation the parents were openly chatting with each other about the different strategies they had used to solve various problems.The parents were then free to wander around the tables and take part in the games and activities that the teachers were demonstrating. The parents were encouraged to explore the maths equipment on display and enjoy the experience of using materials to solve problems.It was an informative and fun afternoon.
